Hi,

I have some really basic questions about file and DVD formats as well as burn settings

I live in Australia where PAL is the standard. What I would like to do is burn to DVD certain downloaded MPEG1 movies using Nero 6 vision express (in the OEM Suite 3 version). So far I have been having no problems but I am trying to get the highest quality possible.

My process to date is to download the video clips; sometimes edit them with Ulead Videostudio 9; save them as a video file in the same format as downloaded (MPEG1 in NTSC format?) and then burn them on a DVD using Nero.

I guess my first question is does it make much of a difference how I save the edited video files before burning them? For example, Videostudio 9 gives various choices as to file format such as ?save as current project setting?, save in PAL DV (4:3) or PAL MPEG1. It saves rendering time to simply save the file in the same project settings and then burn this on Nero, but if I intend to play back the DVD on a PAL DVD and television will this decrease the quality?

On a more general level, if I intend to burn DVDs form downloaded MPEG1 files and play them back on a PAL TV (as opposed to a computer) what would be the best file settings in Videostudio and burn settings in Nero?

Sorry if this seems a bit rambling.

I just noticed that Nero burns all the files in PAL (4:3) resolution 352 x 576 (half D1) so I am wondering how this affects what I asked above?

In other words, perhaps because the way I have already set Nero up, whatever files get burned by it to DVD get transcoded into the appropriate format for a PAL TV and DVD recorder? Is this correct? or wat off beam?
