Movie on DVD-R without chapters in standalone....

i've successfully ripped and burned a movie to DVD-R.
its simply just the movie as it was on the original DVD, i have not removed any subtitles or extra audio streams.

the DVD-R movies plays absolutely perfectly in my PC, it has no menus, just plays the movie straight away, and has 24 chapters that i can navigate through
however in my standalone player, and PS2, i can not change the chapters, or fast forward/backward through the movie, it plays, but i cant do anything with it other than stop and play

why is this? any settings i've got wrong? anything i can change?

How do we know if you have got any settings wrong if you don't tell us the process that you used?

i thought if it was a common problem, or it had happened to anyone else before they would know what they did wrong.

i used DVD Decrypter to copy the main movie files to hard drive. i used file mode and also copied the Video_TS.IFO and .BUP and VTS_01_1.IFO and BUP files.

then i used IFO edit to 'create IFOS'
then to 'Get VTS Sectors'

and the finished movie works fine in PC, with chapters, but when its played in my PS2 or any standalone player it just plays from beginning to end, i am unable to fast forward/back or change chapters

If you are using IFOedit to create the IFO's you don't need to have anything other than the VOBs in the folder. It may be confusing itself.

Get rid of everything but the VOB's and have IFOedit create the IFO's again, then get VTS sectors etc

that might be it, i'll try ifoedit with just the vobs later.

in the meantime i've been having excellent results with this DVD2One program, rip the files to hard drive with DVD Decrypter (including the IFO file) then use DVD2One to strip audio and subtitle streams, it automatically creates new VIDEO and VTS IFO files, and does the same as the Get VTS Sectors on IFOedit, so the files you end up with are exactly as they need to be for burning to DVD

IFOedit may have more features, but for creating IFO files, DVD2one is much easier to use and has better success rates.

The easiest way to strip everything but the movie and the soundtrack that you want is to set smart ripper to movie mode and enable stream processing and demux the streams
You end up with a video file (.m2v) and an audio file (.ac3 or .dts) which you then use ifoedit to author new VOBs.

This method is very useful for films like Goldmember where the streams are all over the place and it's very difficult to know what to do with any other method.
I think dvd2one has a problem with such films
