Would it ber possible to show the names of members who are online at a given time? Some other forums I am a member show this and I always find it very useful.

The feature doesn't have any real meaning to anyone and causes tons of unnecessary database load, even in cached every 5 mins or so. It can be done -- admins do actually have a page that shows this data -- but wont be added to the site in near future. Unlike some out-of-the-box forum tools, our main goal with our in-house forum software is to deliver the pages as quickly as possible.

To demonstrate this, for the last 7-10 days -- until yesterday -- the forums have been sitting on only one box as we've upgraded our other load-balanced servers meanwhile and the response times have been well under 50-100 milliseconds (==it takes less than 0.1 seconds to create the dynamic forum page) -- with 3000+ users online virtually all the time during the peak hours.
