I have attempted to back up an original dvd of this film but have been unable to get the subtitle translation of the japanese dialogue to appear on screen unless I select the sub title option on the player. This gives me all the subtitled dialogue and I do not want this. Can anyone help please?

If you are doing only the main movie in reauthor mode in Shrink, you could try forcing subtitles. There's a guide here......

there's usually one subtitle option for subs throughout the whole movie, and another one for just the japanese parts.

i can't remember how many subtitle choices my copy has, but i solve mine with dvd remote. plus looks like the guys got you sorted there..

thanks to zippyd, squizzle and creaky. my problem was solved by going to preferences then to stream selection and making sure the " disable all subpicture etc" was unchecked. it now works.

naw, thanks go the other guys, i just cheat and use the dvd remote. Nearly all my copies have at least one subtitle selection play by default in my standalone so i cheat and turn off or select the right one; ie i don't mess within Shrink too much
