Can I get media code with a stand-alone recorder or the DVD player only in my PC?

I have a dvd player only built in to my PC and my burner is the Toshiba XS52 stand alone recorder with Hard disk. Is there any way I can check the media code on DVD-R blanks with either of these?

on your pc, download dvdinfopro (free). Paste the media info here if you like...will promise to not laugh if the discs are really atrocious :)

Thanks for the tip. I installed DVDinfopro and it gave me a message that my DVD rom drive will not read media codes, so I guess that's out. Doesn't look good. Well I've been fine so far anyway, no bad burns.
