I recently posted on this forum somewhere that I thanked everyone for their support and knowledge. One of the replies that I got was that it was no problem, as long as I shared my knowledge back. So Instead of crying for help, I'm going to post a solution to a problem I have been working on for quite some time now. I've seen quite a few of posts regarding the "How do I convert rmvb to avi" subject. After futily squandering through many progs, I find out that DVD Santa is the very best way to convert rmvb straight to DVD. :)

Glad that DVDSanta works for you. It does convert rmvb to dvd compliant format quite well. But some people here just don't like DVDSanta. I use it occasionally, tho.
For converting rmvb to AVI, I use a video converter that comes with Video Edit Magic.

I checked out Video Edit Magic's site and there is no mention of any Real Media extensions supported. This was @ www.deskshare.com. Could there be two apps called Video Edit Magic?
They even have an app Digital Media Converter and that shows no Real support.
What's up?

I nearly missed your post. Indeed there is no mention about Video Edit Magic able to convert rm or rmvb files. I just found this out myself through playing with various video converting programs 'cos I just like to experiment with things. *_*
Now what I found out was with K-Lite codec Pack installed, I could run the video converter that came with Video Edit Magic, check 'all files' instead of 'all files supported', select a rm or rmvb file, then select the video and audio codec and convert. The results have been perfect.
I tried this on a few other converting programs that said they could not do it (e.g. X Video Converter). They could still convert, but the results were horrible.
Maybe you could try play around with some other converting programs and have yourself some new discoveries!
BTW, don't tell Video Magic Edit about this lest they'll raise their price!!!!!

Also you can get .AVI video by putting .rmvb through Stoik Video Converter version 1.1 freeware and setting the .AVI audio codec to nothing. Then drop the .rmvb file on GoldWave to get an audio file.
Stoik 1.1 does some stuff that 2.1 doesn't so you should get it before it disappears:

When you go to download it the filename is StoikVideoConverter10.zip
but in fact it has a VideoPak.exe file that is Stoik 1.1. They seem to be crossed up in the filenames in a lot of the downloads so make sure you get a .zip file with VideoPak.exe in it or it's prolly v 2.x

It seems the two best choices (most commonly recommended) are winavi and dvdsanta. I heard there were problems with dvdsanta, sometimes not recognizing rmvb files...havent tried so not sure. I personally use winavi so i recommend that one, but i believe its a trial version only, and you need to buy it. fortunately for us, there are ways to get around that...=)

For me the best solution!If anyone would like to convert (RMVB to AVI) but like me, have tried a lot of programs and none of them worked.
Here was the SOLUTION for me.
In tmpg xpress encode only video to AVI and with goldwave convert the audio to wave.
In VirtualDub join video and AVI. DONE or any other program.
Usually these are asian movies with VirtualDub put the sub in there.
After you are done, you have a big file normal around 2gb .
Split the files.Open the audiofile with goldwave and convert to mp3 and join them.That is the best way for me and believe me i tried almost everything.
Hope this helps some people out there, ;-)

I used winavi video converter before, but it become slowly sometimes. Now I am using apecsoft rmvb to AVI converter. it works fine for me. Recommend you to try it. The author's homepage: http://www.apecsoft.com
