Well my First question is Why are you useing both WinMpg and TMPGEnc as they Both do the exact same think accept TMPGEnc is a Better quality encoder but slower.....

Load your AVI file into TMPGEnc and under the "video arrange Method" setting select "Full Screen(Keep aspect ratio)" and then encode to Mpeg-1/VCD and the Image should look normal but if it doesn"t post back with your AVI files resolution and I can tell you how to resize it without stretching it useing TMPGEnc....

Cheers

Thank you so much for your help. Yes, you might wonder why I am using winmpg and TMPGEnc ... sometimes TMPGEnc can't process the file so I need to use winmpg to convert into an "avi" first. After that I would use TMPGEnc ... AVI->mpg. I really don't know why TMPGEnc can't read the video clip whereas winmpg can... but the final output in VCD format streches espcially the face or the person would look tall and thin :(

I do notice that the file is not a "real" AVI file in the first place that is why TMPGEnc can't do the conversion. I have the neccessary codecs in the system ... divx5.02 and xvid too.

Fortunately this happens only about 30% of the time but I do have some conversions that are real excellent !! :) :)

Anyway I absolutely LOVE this forum and the ppl here are like one BIG family helping each other out

many thanks for your tip and am trying out the conversion again I do really enjoying messing around this new found hobby

best regards

Yopu can usualy fix that problem in TMPGEnc by going to "Options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "VFAPI Plugins" and Raiseing the Priority of the "Direct Show File Reader" to "2" and not TMPGEnc should Load the Files....

You should also make sure the audio in your AVI is decompressed before encodeing with TMPGEnc....

Cheers

I love WINAVI to bits as it does all sorts of conversions as well as converting anything to DVD format/structure. It also does VCD conversions but I've moved onto DVD burning now. VCD and SVCD making takes longer if i remember rightly so I don't miss it much.

I also use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink /w Nero Reloaded Enterprise.

The above 3 packages are the best and least hassle solutions for my Media conversion/ripping/burning requirements.

The less converting you do with the least programs produces a better end result with as close to 100% quality as possible (in case you hadn't realised that yet, doh!!).

The question asked however.....

Ive heard of the opposite happen (widescreen to 4:3) to my friend's, uncle's, brother's, sister's, father's, mother's cousin when converting Star Wars 3. Options in WINAV before conversion solved it (or so I hear), so likely theres something in the options for your program of choice that is usually best left at automatic (usually found amongst the options for PAL/NTSC settings).
