can i run the mc exploit without a psx game? can i use a ps2 disk instead? if so how?

Maybe, NO, and not possible.

if your system DOES NOT have a mod chip then you CANNOT do it without a psx cd. the exploit works that way because of a flaw in the ps2 something or other when detecting ps1 cd's.

if your system HAS a mod chip, then you can do almost whatever you want, and wont need the ps1 trigger cd.

exploit = Codebreaker 8.1 method

If u had a psx cd and a slim ps2 the slim ones dont work with the exploit.
