Just burned some ripped tv show clips to a dvd. When I play them on any player, sometimes the playback freezes and then skips ahead several frames. I'm not sure what causes this, but i'm beginning to think that it might be that some frames didn't burn correctly and the player gets stuck on these.

Am I correct in assuming this is the problem? How can I "smooth" out these frame skips, is there any option to help with this (im using nero 6 ultra and nerovision 3, VSO divxtodvd, shrink dvd)?

Maybe you could burn to HD first to check the results. If they're o.k., then you probably have a media problem.

Well when i played the clip on my PC, it had no errors at those points, so perhaps it was a media problem. What causes this? A dirt spec on the media? Is there anyway to make sure it doesnt happen in the future?

This involves a compatibility problem between burner, burning program, media, and player. But since media is the easiest thing to change, so people often just characterize it as media problem. Usually using better media would get better results. You may check out the respective forum on this site regarding this issue. Alternatively, you may visit the web site of the manufacturer of your burner. They usually have a list of media that they have tested to be compatible with their products. Sometimes updating your firmware might also solve the problem.
Good luck!

The thing is...the media I used to burn this dvd came with the burner, it is the same company...so I can't imagine that it wouldn't be compatible. When i first noticed the skipping, i took the dvd out and cleaned/polished it a little, thinking it was just dirty. Some of the skips did disappear, but others remained.

Try use Decrypter to burn a regular movie and compare the results. If you still get the same problems, my best advice would still be try better media.

I have to agree with scf_au. Download this free proggy http://tucows.menanet.net/preview/336091.html and give us the manufacturer and ID. BTW what speed are you burning at? It is not recommended that you burn video folders over 4x.
