Hi all,

I've just bought a load of Datawrite Titanium Full Face Printable DVD-Rs, but I'm having problems burning them.

I've got a Sony DW22A drive which has burnt to the normal Datawrite Titanium disks perfectly before.

Now I've got these printable disks and Nero and Alcohol 120% say the disk is not empty. I have tried several disks from the spindle, but they all come up with the same error.

Anyone know what's wrong ?

im just curious as to WHAT speed they are rated as, a quick check gave me 2 VERY DIFFERENT answers of manufacturers, one is great, the OTHER is horrible~ :

Datawrite Titanium DVD-R 4.7GB CMC MAG. AE1 8x

Datawrite Titanium DVD-R 4.7GB MCC 03RG20 16x

(information obtained at videohelp.com)

if you are using the 8x, those are HORRIBLE...CMC MAG are THE worst manufacturers on the planet, and you can consider yourself QUITE lucky if those discs have worked for you in the past~ there is no telling whether they will work a few months/years from now down the road, CMC MAGs are notorious for quickly degrading, and if you do a disc check, many errors will MOST LIKELY be reported if the disc can even be played back/read at all.

the 16x discs are TERRIFIC~ MCC media ID that is very much in line w/ the 16x Verbatim coding, excellent media~ :)

may i recommend the 1st step in finding the solution to your problem is check for firmware updates, and IF you are using the good 16x MCC media, there is a very strong possibility that your burner is not up to date to be able to read those discs.

if firmware is not the issue, then, it might be a problem with the CMC MAG discs (i assume it's the same coding if you are using the 8x dvd-r by that company)...u are using Nero, a Nero log (please post it here in this thread) would be great in finding the problem...more info is needed

that's just what i can say right now w/ the info you gave me...i can be of more assistance once i know/see the Nero log and i have many friends on here that are terrific in disecting a Nero log, much better than i am, to find problems (creaky is the 1st that comes to my mind)

let me/us know~

The disks I'm using are the 16x speed disks, as bought from here http://www.svp.co.uk/acatalog/dvd-rprint.html at SVP. The ones I've got are code DV 3227.

I've had a look for a firmware update for my drive ( Sony DVD RW D22A ) but can't find one anywhere.

hehehe, took me a little while, but i uncovered the newest firmware...it IS very hard to find it online, since it ISN'T offered on Sony's website:

here you go :

http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#DW-D22A

try updating to the newest BYS3 dated nov. 17th, 2004. that is THE newest OEM firmware i could find, there are also other options for your drive to make it a liteon or sony too, but that involves cross-flashing and patchers, so i would be a bit hesitant if you are not familiar with updating firmware properly~

but, my suggestion would be go for the BYS3, as i THINK (keep fingers crossed for you) that your drive was simply NOT recognizing your new media as it's "too new" (16x media) and was recently introduced AFTER your original firmware was installed on your drive. a quick/proper update of firmware SHOULD hypothetically resolve your issue of not being able to recognize the newer media~

hope that helps, let me know~ :)

Excellent work, kivory666.

I flashed the BYS3 firmware to the drive and everything works fine. It only burns these DVDs at 8x speed, rather than the quoted 16x speed, but I'm not too worried about that.

Many thanks for your help mate.
