Well, I stupidly took apart my PS2 (as I have hundreds of times before)to try and clean the laser lense. But this time... I pulled a plug. Or something of that sort... You see, there is a small white ribbon that connects the "Eject" and "Reset" buttons to the machine itself. And, unfortunately, this is what came off. I didn't see where it popped off from, and I'm generally careful about not disconnecting this particular piece, but I was in a rush... Can anyone tall me where this goes, and what it's connected to? It's not broken, or torn, so where ever it came off from, I should be able to simply re-connect it... Thanks so much for your help in advance!

I plan on leaving this world just as I came, screaming and covered in someone else's blood...

it;s connected underneath the disc housing...you have to unscrew(i believe) 3 or 4 screws that hold the housing down and plug the ribbon in on the back side..man this is going to take you a couple of tries..i had to do it and i about lost it a couple of times..lol..they don't give you much leeway...the place it will be connected too will be next to another connection same ribbon just bigger, and be careful not pull that one out either...

Err... Wait a minute, forgive me if you are convinced by now that I'm an idiot, but I don't really understand. By "connected underneath the disc housing" you mean the flat, waffle-textured piece that says, "Caution" on a yellow sticker? Or the actual disc tray? Or... even underneath that? I know I unscrewed things until I was at the point where I could actually disconnect the whole laser lense! O_o;; Is that what you meant?... I'm really sorry, I'm just a bit confused by all of the "unscrew able" things here inside this machine... Also, I have one of the older models, not the new thin version so... Maybe if you had some pictures or something to help me along a little?...

Oh! Thanks so much! That would really help me out tons. I'm really quite an idiot when it comes to taking apart/puting together machines. ^_^;; I'm really sorry for being a bother though. But many thanks for helping me anyway! I'll wait for the pics then, I'll probably need them...

i just thought i'd drop you a line...it's underneath the housing of the waffle looking thing, just pull the whole box(the laser casing), up and there will be to white(fat) ribbons that plug into the connectors,a small one and a wide one, i think the lil' one is the power and the wide one is for the laser..make sure they are plugged in...i'm working too much lately and i haven't had a chance to get the pics, sorry man...but when i get sometimei will try to get them for you..(14hour workdays suck, too tired when off), good luck ;)

14 hour workdays?! O_O; Wow... That sounds awful. Oh well, I bet it pays well enough though! Thanks anyway for the extra info by the way! But... I think we might just be talking about two totally different things. It seems like what your telling me is the ribbon that makes the blue "Open" and green "Reset" buttons work is inside the machine somewhere. But on mine, the ribbon is directly connected to the two buttons. The whole problem started when I unscrewed the PS2 and I took the top layer of the body off. (or the part that says 'PS2' on it) I jerked the white ribbon out of where ever it connects to, and thus my problem. I don't see how it could possibly be under so many layers of the machine, when I didn't even feel any resistance when I accidentally jerked it out... -_- Oh well. I'll wait for the pictures and see what's what though. I'm never really good with descriptive material... Thanks again, Evnflow! I really, really appreciate all your help!

hey man sup? is the wire actually a few white wires that are tied together with black tape that are cnnected directly to the buttons? if so then to connect it back to the buttons, take the buttons(power and reset) and face them towards yourself(power on top) then look to the right of the power button(where the green chip board is and there should be a small cream colored connector that you plug those wires into...still will get you pics, but in a hurry sorry man ;)

Ayaa... Maybe I should get you some pictures too. Now I'm really certain that the info you're giving me isn't the problem I'm having... That's okay though, we'll get it eventually... I just wish we could do it faster before my poking/prodding family notices...

Ah! Now we're really getting somewhere. Okay, I'm sure now, that we were talking about the same thing after all. My plug must look different than yours, that's all. Anyway, now that I can see how to plug it back in, how on Earth do you get to that place? I completely disattatched my PS2's bottom layer, but when you flip the whole thing over (and for some reason, you have to take out the entire system to do this) there's that big, white metal box thing that the Expansion Bay piece connects to.... Maybe I took it apart wrong?...

on mine there were a few screws that just held the tray into place(not the tiny screw, the other ones) i think there were like 3 or 4...and it just came out..i'll take apart later to make sure...sorry man they are working too much and i can't use the comp at work anymore..so it will probably be a lil' splotchy on the times..but i'm going to try to help as much and as quick as possible

on my tray there were four screws holding it in on in top left corner, left middle, right middle and bottom right, these screws should hold it in, just unscrew and it pops out, then turn over and plug it in...good luck man ;)

We~ll, sorry for the long wait, but I *did* fix the power buttons. Yeah... and that's all well and good but... Now there's something wrong with my disc drive... -_-;; I can't believe it really. Fix one thing, break another, you know? Anyway, for some reason, the part that spins the disc isn't spinning anymore... It'll spin for about a second, and then it stops... Does... anyone know what to do about this?...

**sighs** Thanks alot. I'm sorry for more trouble. You know, my cousin told me that the people at GameStop told him to tell me that it would be much cheaper just to buy a new one than get it fixed. I was so close to proving them all wrong... I really thought, "Hey! I fixed it!" and now look... I've got such terrible luck... -_-

hey by any chance are you getting a "disc read" error? you may want to check to two clip on the bottom layer of your disc tray....if you look on the pic i posted they are in the bottom right corner of the pic the two brown clip...they may be a different color than yours but the same purpose...one of them is a power ribbon and the other is for the laser these ribbons being loose or not connected will cause your tray to quit spinning..check these connections...BUT BE CAREFUL, they are a pain in the ass to connect if you disconnect them...good luck and let me know how it goes..sorry been busy with some psp stuff...but haven't forgot about this site.... ;)
