burnout 3 joypad not working HELP!!

Hello everyone, I recently bought Burnout 3 takedown but the game refuse to accept my joypad extreme doubleshock, basically the start button just don't work, it load fine and I can see the demo ect..but no way to get it start, I did test the game onto a different ps2 succesfully, but everything else I own work just fine!
anyone had same experience? i cannot even return the game as the shop I went did test me the game prior to sell it to me, my PS2 should be V4
please anyone?
