Help With Evolution x and backing up games????

Hi,
im sure that all of you will know a hell of a lot about this stuff, but im just starting out, so i apologise for my total lack of..well..anything. ok, well, i recently had my xbox chipped, so that i could play back up games. however, i really want to learn how to do this myself either by putting them on cd, or just playing them stright from the hard drive.

Well, i have been reading about the evolution x dashboard and thought that i would download it. However, when i got my xbox back and turned it on without any game in, i saw that i had an evolution x screen already on the xbox, with the ONLY option of insert game/movie disk on the screen. I can go back to the original dashboard screen, but there is nothing new there.

Basically, does this mean that evolution x is already installed??? if so, what should i do??? Any help on what i should do next would be appreciated. Thanx for taking the time to read this.
