Hello,
I would appreciate any suggestions about this problem:

I have used ICOPYDVD, DVD shrink and DVDDecrypter, and lastly DVD shrink and Nero to burn to TDK, Philips, and finally Taiyo Yuden thermal 8x DVD-R discs.

The discs will playback on my computer, but when I try it on my new (purchased in May this year) and 'cheap' Toshiba SD-K741 DVD player I recieve the error 'Incorrect disc' 'bad'.

I tried using an old Panasonic DVD player, and it would not work there either.

However, the discs DO work on my brother's fairly new Panasonic 5 disc player.

My Toshiba Player WILL play DVD-R burned discs which were created on an older Emachines which has a new Sony DVD-/+RW drive in it.

My computer uses a TSSTcorp CD/DVD-/+RW drive, which I believe is made by Samsung (?)-It is a brand new emachine, C3060.

My brother says it is my Toshiba player that is the problem, and that I should return it and get something else. I have considered also that it may be the DVD-/+RW drive in my computer that is the problem, but if this were the case, the discs would not work in ANY machine (?)

Would certainly be grateful for help with this,
E.T.

I would return that dvd player and get one that will play all formats. You can take your backups into the store and pop them into a dvd player and check them out.

If you haven't tried the plus format, you may want to give it a shot for that tsst burner.Pick up a small pack and try those backups in all the drives you use.Your stand alones may prefer the plus format off that particular burner. Some burners have poorer compatability when it comes to playing them on many different stand alone players.

Another suggestion is checking out another dvd-rw drive like the benq 1620 and the nec 3500. They are able to booktype dvd plus media to dvd-rom,thus making them more compatable for stand alone playability.
Newegg.com is where I got my last benq for under $50 and I have found only 1 very old ps2 that won't play my benq backups. Over 30 + standalones will play my booktyped dvd-rom backups- excellent compatability.
I've got 2 other burners laying in a box because their compatability totally sucked- even after book-typing them to dvd-rom.

Thanks for the excellent advice!

We did as suggested and took a burned disc in and found a Philips Player for 50 dollars that played it no problem. Two others were compatible, but we found another couple which would NOT play the discs.

I got the Philips, and will also try using the Plus format for discs and see how that works on different Players we have in the house.

I'm writing down the names of the dvd-rw drives as suggested to buy in future (a.k.a. when I have more money LOL)

Thanks again,
E.T.

I'd have to suggest LiteOn. They make great stuff.
