Hey everyone,
sorry to have to ask this question but I havent really understood everything that I just read for the past hour....Normally I burn DVD-Rs...however...I want to make my movies more compatible...

Now I read some stuff and if someone could tell me if I am right or wrong I would appreciate it.

1.DVD 9 = 8.5gigs of space....compatible with all commercial DVD players if burnt as dvd-rom

2.DVD-Roms are what commercial DVDs are burned as

3.you can burn a DVD-R as a DVD-ROM (or is it only DVD+Rs)

(also if I burn as a dvd-rom...what is the chance that it will not be compatible with commercial DVD players...)

someone had posted a link to a website that had alot of information like this...if you could post it again I would appreciate it.

1. correct, but I have a hard time believing that all burned discs will work on all players, even when booktyped as DVD-ROM. Players that play -R format won't like a poor quality disc, why wouldn't it be the same with booktyped discs?

2. DVD-ROMs are commercial DVDs, but commercial DVDs aren't burned, they are pressed. The manufacturer uses a press to press the layer(s) of media onto the plastic.

3. It's the +Rs that are booktyped, along with +RW. Only certain burners are able to booktype. Not sure how to do this with Nero but I know how to do it with DVD Decrypter. There's an icon in the bottom right corner when you're in ISO Write mode. Check out the guides I have listed in my sig for more info.

The Way I understand it is a DVD-Rom is a Data DVD and you can Burn Data to any type of DVD in DVD-Rom Format....Commercial DVD"s aren"t Burnt they are Pressed sort of Like Records used to be Pressed

Pretty Much 100% of all DVD Players sold Today can Play DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW disks and Most DVD Players will say right on them what formats they Play and will Usually play even more than they say they can Play....

So as Long as your DVD is Burned Correctly in DVD Video Mode it should Play on pretty Much any DVD Player made in the Last Couple Years.....
