Hi weazel200,

That really is a question that different people might have different answers but here is mine. Regardless the format you want to make sure that it is a LOSSLESS compression. JPG are a LOSSY type of compression and are good for websites and email. If you take hi quality digital pictures, you want to make sure you would use a LOSSLESS compression which means that all the information stored in an image is kept and is not lost. If you have a big enough hard drive, I would recommend TIFF format. they are much bigger files but they are compatable with almost any photo software on PC and MAC. If you are serious about your photos like I am, use that format, if you don't have a good size hard drive then with the prices as low as they are you should be able to purchase a nice one for little cash. Hope this helps.

It all depends on what you want to do with the pictures you take.

very true it all depends. for day to day use jpegs are good, but if you want something high quality to make large prints out of go with tiffs

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Thanks for the help everyone. I am going with either bitmap or tiff for photos but for album covers for music cd's should I go for JPG.
