I would really like a definitive method of backing up DVD's.

I have read through most of the forum and picked up some tips i.e.

Use

DVD Shrink
Imgtools
DVD Decrypter

And I have read ScubaPete's thread of 16th April 2004.

But I'm wondering is the information out of date and better methods are now availabe.

Also what is the difference between DVD + & DVD - and should copies work on most DVD players.

I appologise if this thread is repeating itself but the more I read the more confused I get.

Thats what you get when you are a silver surfer.

Many thanks

You needn't apologize here, BBr1an. These folks are pretty forgiving and mature...believe me, I've made a couple of whoppers!
The tools you mentioned are all ideal for the budget-minded, and Scubapete's guide is up to date. If you are looking for better tools and have a little money; Anydvd ($40), CCE Basic ($60), and DVD Rebuilder (free).
-R is a more commonly recognized format for most stand-alone players but it is best to check the owners manual "Format Types" to verify what type your player is set for. Some players, like mine, will play anything.

Just try Decrypter and Shrink first. They are both free and very good. No need to waste your money unless needed to. Also, if you want something to run in the background to tackle the Region Code or CSS problem, try DVD43 first. It's also free.
Happy DVD burning!
