Hello,

I was wondering if there are ways or stand alone dvd players for that matter that let any region DVD play on the single system.

I bought my DVD stand alone player Philips here in Korea and I think I can only play Region 3 DVD's on there, am I mistaken?? Are there ways for me to play a Region 1 (US) DVD on my player and NOT have the distorted picture??? Please tell me the ways around it.

I Thought about just buying a DVD/ Divx DVD player, would that help in any way for me to also view Region 1 and Region 3 DVD's???

I know about Regionfree software for the PC and it works just wonderful there, but how about stand alone DVD player, please enlighten me ...

Thank you So Much

Ralph

Yes there are region-free dvd players. Some manufacturers in the "old" days cludged the region restriction feature and it was easy to remove the restriction through flashing the ROM or simply activating a built-in region-free mode via remote keypress combinations. Now people simply replace ROMs with region-free ROMs. You can either send your player to them for a replacement or buy a player already modified. Search Google or any other search engine for region-free players. The other way is to simply backup your DVD. Most software will strip the macrovision encoding and make the disk region-free when doing the backup. You can also just rip the disk to your hard drive and then use any number of software players to view it.

Yes, replacing chips with chips. Go to Google and search for region-free standalone dvd players.

There would be no point in converting a Region 1 to a Region 3. Simply making the backup region-free should make it playable in all players.

DVD Decrypter can be used to rip the dvd to your hard drive making it region-free and stripped of Macrovision. It's a free download here:

DVD Shrink can be used to re-encode and shrink the size of a disk to fit on a single layer disk once the file is ripped to your hard drive. It can be downloaded free here:

Guides for using are here:

You could also see if you can locate a 'remote' hack.

These are codes that can be entered via the remote control to convert your player to region free etc.

Goto http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks and enter your dvd make/model and see if anyone has posted a multi region hack for your player.

Also you will need to make sure that your player/tv can play other formats of video - ie PAL/NTSC etc etc.

Hope this helps.......................
