Does anyone Know the way to modify A captured avi file with one program and then encode it with another? So far I have been using TPGEnc Plus but the encoding takes too much time especially in the slow setting. Perhaps it would be possible to delete the commercials and unwanted portions of the avi file and still be able to convert it with mainconcept for example. I'd be happy to read any suggestions!Thanks!
Well in TMPGEnc you can use the "Source Range" settings to Cut out the Comercials ect when encodeing...
You could also use Virtual-Dub to Frameserve Just the Parts you want to encode to TMPGEnc...You can even use TMPGEnc and a tool called the "VFAPI converter" to Frameserve from TMPGEnc to MainConcept and that way you can use all of Tmpgenc"s Filters and such but do the encodeing with MainConcept...
You could also just encode the File useing MainConcept and after encodeing use an editor like "Womble Mpeg2VCR" to cut out the Commercials.....
as you can see there are Lots of things you can do....

The quick and easy way, is to edit the AVI in VirtualDub, then frameserve to Mainconcept.
About 20 times faster than TMPGEnc, and easier to edit (with a free program), than editing mpegs, plus you're only encoding the parts you want, not the whole thing, then editing later.
I have Tried to frameserve from V-Dub to MainConcept many times but I was never able to get it to work as MainConcept would encode the File but the Mpeg file would just be a Green Screen.....
Is there anything special I need to do to get it to work???
Providing you have the frameserver client installed, install the VFAPI reader to the mainconcept folder, just as you would for TMPGEnc.
If MC can't decypher the .vdr, try a false .AVI (just change the extention, when saving the frameserved video in vdub).
If that fails, use avisynth to frameserve thus:
Virtualdub, outputs the .vdr
Avisynth script: AviSource("Drive:\Path\filename.vdr")
Saved as .avs
Open the .avs in MC.
