I've compressed a DVD called "A Tale of Two Sisters" using shrink and didn't use the deep analysis or the AEC settings since I got it to only compress about 25% of the original. Usually this works fine but this movie has a lot of scenes that don't have much lighting or take place in dark rooms, etc. There was very noticable artifacts and pixelization throughout the entire movie. Would deep analysis take care of this or d.a. plus AEC? And which AEC setting should I use. I was thinking "maximum smoothness" since there are no special efx such as explosions in the movie.
By the way, if you guys get a chance, check it out. FREAKY! And actually kind of sad. A little confusing at the end though but I like a movie that makes me think. ;-)

I'd use the max smoothness setting and the deep analysis together. Maybe apply a bit less compression to the main movie and a bit more to the end credits.

When I did the first backup, I used a combo of still images and custom compression on the extras (which I compressed all the way down), and compressed the menus all the way down. Also, I took out any unwanted audio. Unfortunately, as far as I know, I can't compress credits separate from the movie using shrink.

You can actually apply different compression levels to different parts of the main movie with Shrink but only if you re-author so you would end up without working menus.

Here is ddlooping's guide:

It is an old guide using Shrink 3.0b5 but it still applies. I've tried it a couple of times and it is handy to know about when you have a big movie to compress.

That's what I thought. I never use re-author for myself but have a couple other times for other people and I've experimented w/ it to edit out parts of a movie. Pretty handy for stuff like that.
