GT4 Gameshark Headaches!

Sorry to EVERYONE but the problems I am having are really driving me bloody mad! I own Gameshark 2 v3, when I input the codes for Gran Turismo 4, they never work? I have followed the instructions from Gameshark.

I put the Master code in first, then add some other codes (e.g. licences etc) and they just dont want to work. From the gameshark site it states "L1 or L2 to activate" when do you press these buttons?

I would really appreciate some help regarding this.
