try to playback a dvd+ dvd. It also depends on the mod chip. Most mod chip support dvd-+r. Back up a game and try it out.

Can you play some PS2 games without a modchip and if so can you send me a list of which ones can be played?

No you NEED a modchip or some boot method (e.g swap magic) to play backed up games. Theres no way around this and don't bother downloading swap magic cos it WON'T work unless its the original

dvd -r are advised and seem to be the favourite format for back ups. But many people have had success using dvd r+..

However a dvd -rw cannot be used, as the PS2 cannot read these disks.

Also a modchip or a boot disk, such as swap magic is required to play backed up PS2 games, with no exceptions.

I really recommend AGAINST using dvd+r's. using a v12,the load times we're longer and games like SanAndreas kept getting loading problems when travelling the streets.

I suppose changing the booktype to -R might make them easier to read, but I haven't done it yet, sticking to real -R's for now.

Can the PS2 version 7 read backup DVD+R and why are the modchip expensive compared to the swap disk?

ok i am having some problems, i need to know whether to burn the mds or the iso file,so if you can help me with that it i will appreciate that...

I also tried the mds file but nothing came up on the swap magic, burning with the DVD Decrypter.

so using: DVD Decrypter, and buring mds file!

this is the only thing i get confused about..

thank you

You can burn either, the mds just points to the iso any way so youll get the same end result

I'll pick the DVD+R over any -R any day. At least with the DVD+R, you can booktype its setting into a DVD-ROM format and this will be easily read/play on your older PS2 models flawlessly.

I have a version 1 PS2 and it plays DVD+R backups flawlessly. I don't know where all this nonsense about only newer PS2's will play +R media, as they dont get much older than mine.

you could booktype your settings to dvd-rom when you burn, then they should play. Use good media when you burn them.
