I have been burning dvd's forever using the dvd shrink nero combo and all of a sudden when nero picks up to burn it does not recognize the blank dvd-r disc i want to burn to. I have never had this problem before, any ideas?

You probably need to update the firmware to your DVD writer so it can recognize the disks... Check here http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

What brand of media did you get?

Yeah Memorex are notoriously known as the worst media you can buy..
Read threaw the thread in my sig (the second link) For more info..

Also right click on your DVD drive or Writer and select properties then go to the tab at the top that says "Hardware" your drives should be listed there. Let me know what you have..?

alright i figured out the brand it is an nec 3100n AD.the sight you directed me to says there are no available firmware updates for this particular burner. I figured it out i had purchased disc that are somehow not compatible with my burner. for some reason the discs have to say they are rw compatible. they are not rw discs but i guess they have to be compatible, who knew? thanks for your help!
