I recently got the Sony DAV S-300, and was fiddling with the buttons on the front panel, (my mate said that there were hidden stuff built in)and came across some sort of service screen ot test menu.
I was pressing, 'muting' 'return' and the turned the volume dial right. Then this blue with white writing appeared. There six or seven options and I clicked 2 or 3 (can't remember, one was 'automatic .....' and the other 'manula ....', it was one of these)
It came up with a list of things like, 'All' 'DVD-SL' 'DVD-DL' 'CD'.
I clicked one of them, (one of the dvd ones) and it said insert a disc, so I did. It did some whirring, and after a few seconds said, something about an 'error!!'
After this my dvd player can't play discs, it say 'no disc'.
I'm hoping somebody can help. I tried unplugging it, doing a 'soft reset' which didn't work.
Does anyone konw how to reset the dvd player to the factory settings or somethink?
Cheers

Try putting in google "Sony DAV S300 remote default settings". I had it happen to one of my remotes and was able to restore back to default. If all else fails phone Sony. Good Luck.

I believe the commands from your remote will reset your player to defaults. Thus why google.
We have Sony Stores (not sure if you do) that sell only Sony products, and most of the salesmen are quite knowledgeable about the equipment, they might be able to help?

go back to the same screen and press dvd-sl (single layer) I think you clicked dl (double layer) so... your dvd player is trying to recognize the dvd-dl when you put in a normal disc. Thats why it says no disc. change it back. it will work.

When I select '0.all' it then asks for a dvd-sl, i put one in and i get the same 'error' message. 'syscon diagnosis' doesn't find anything wrong with it. Thanks so far.

While looking for some information on this DVD system which is giving me a C:13:00 error message, I noticed your plea for help. I checked out some other messages about the S300 and suggest that you go to www.reviewcentre.com and enter Electronics then Gadgets then DAV-S300 in the three fields and then click search. Select the second search result (which has 34 reviews)then check out the fifth review down (by MAPNDX)and select "read the full review". After reding the review click on "Read 2 comments on this review" and you will see the extra information which is mentioned in the review. I hope this will be of help to you.
