Okay, Im new to all this. I have one of the old big PS2's not the slim ones. Anyways, can i just add a Hard Drive to the back of the PS2, save games onto it and load them from there. What material do i need to do this. Do i need a mod chip too? Or a network adapter?

Yes you can use a hdd to put Ps2 games onto, apart from the hdd you will need hdadvance or hdloader and a network adapter, you do not ned a modchip for this.
