XBox won't start up, help?

It makes this clicking sound in hd, opened it up and the arm/needle thing was moving back and forth and hitting the sides.
It goes to the "xbox needs service.." screen. It flashes green and red, and this is a bad chip or whatever?
What does this mean exactly and how do I fix it?
Are there any guides out there to help me fix this problem myself?
Microsoft wants the shirt off my back to fix this thing, so i guess its up to me.
I bought it in 2001 and nothing in it has been changed. It just stoppped working.
