Hi. I'm hoping someone can help...I have a PStwo and Swap Magic 3.6+ and would like to install USBAdvance, PGen and a couple of ROMS to my MC (not using an exploit, using Swap Magic Boot Installer) so that I can boot them using UP+L1 and UP+R1 from the Swap Magic boot menu.
The Swap Magic instructions say to download SMBOOT.ZIP, unzip it then burn ps2.iso. I've burnt and booted this and it correctly installs some apps to my MC. This proves that the system works.
Now, I want to customize what apps are installed. To do this it says to update SMBOOT\FILE.LST in ps2.iso and/or update the SMBOOT\FILExx files with the apps that you wish to install.
I've set the following in FILE.LST:
FILE00=SMBOOT0.ELF;1(USBADV)
FILE01=SMBOOT2.ELF;1(PGEN)
FILE02=PGATOUR.BIN;1(PGA96)
FILE03=PGAEURO.BIN;1(PGAEURO)
And have replaced the SMBOOT\FILExx files with my apps/ROMS. I then save the ISO and burn it. It doesn't boot.
I've noticed that the LBA info for SYSTEM.CNF is wrong in the updated ISO. So, I decide to rebuild the ISO using CDGENPS2. I build the ISO and set the correct LBA for SYSTEM.CNF. The CD boots, but does not install any apps/ROMS to the MC.
I then opened the ISO and the Original ISO in ISOBuster. I notice that the FILExx files are named FILExx in my ISO, but are named FILExx. (notice the period) in the original ISO.
Not a problem, I'll rename then when adding them in CDGENPS2. Trying to do this returns an illegal file name error.
If I use another app to rename the files in the ISO it changes the ISO from Mode 2 to Mode 1 and knocks the LBA out of sync!
What I'm looking for is a tool that can create PS2 CD images, allow me to edit the LBA info and rename a file to FILExx.
Please help!

Found the solution. I used CD_DVD-ROM Generator 1.50 (this allows editing of LBA and you can rename files to FILExx.) to build an .iml file. Then converted this to an ISO using iml2iso. Burnt using Nero. Boots fine.

i also tried it, wors great, if you have a DMS4 modchip you could have flashed it with the CHIPPER boot disc wich would have been alot easier.

nvm...got it to work...lots of pain in the butt but yeah..finally got it to work.
JuST IN case anyone else need a tutorial on this, i've decided to keep track as i go so here it is. Leave a message here..or PM me if u need any further helps, if u are not willing to follow this long tutorial, PM as there is an easier way around it (havent tried it but looks possible with UltraISO)
SMBOOT.zip CUSTOMizinG
So here is the solution. I've have wasted over 20 cds before i successfully am able to boot the SMBOOT.
A few programs you may need in order to complete this task:
CDVD GEN 1.50 (can be found at ps2nfo.com)
IML2DVD (can be found at backuptools.co.uk which is made my SONIX(great person))
UltraISO (use yahoo or google search, common programs, jus download the trial version..it will be jus fine)
Nero (or any iso burning program to burn the modified iso)
Ok here it goes, this method will require to to rebuild the ISO. First put all your elfs file into the include SMBOOT folder and delete all the uneccessary files withing the SMBOOT but jus dont delete the FILE.LST. After you deleted all of your FILExx(FILE00-FILE07), renamed your elfs file into FILExx(xx being the numbers 00-how many elfs u have, but with SMBOOT, 4 is best, FILE00-FILE03.)Now to to the FILE.LST and open it with NOTEPAD or u can just make yourself a new one with a fresh NOTEPAD. And this is what you gotta do:
FILE00=SMBOOT0.ELF;1(program'snamehere)
Use that format with all your corresponding file, let say u also have FILE01 too, just add another line to it like this
FILE00=SMBOOT0.ELF;1(program'snamehere)
FILE01=SMBOOT1.ELF;1(program'snamehere)
NOTE: the SMBOOT ALSO GOES FROM SMBOOT0 to SMBOOT1, when u add anotehr one make sure it goes from SMBOOT2, etc.
OK, so now you are ready to make the iso. OPEN up CDVD GEN 1.50, it will ask you about making new or load existing projects. MAKE NEW PROJECT is your choice, then when it ask bout the project type, chose CD-ROM MASTER DISC. Next, the order of files don't really matter but these are the files you will need to put in:
SMBOOT (the folder which contains your FILE.LST and FILExx)
INSTALL.ELF
SYSTEM.CNF
DUMMY
all these files are contained in the SMBOOT.zip which u have downloaded (jus make sure the files and file.lst in the SMBOOT are modified like i have already explained above)
BACK to CDVD GEN 1.50, Now you will have to make IML, but before that you will have to put in a Disc ID, to do that go to VOLUME on teh tab. i figure anything will be fine, i just put something like SLES 121212 for my. OK after that, go to File, then Export IML file.
NOTE that if you used the IML2DVD program to make the iso, when its finished, make sure the files are 9 out of 9 complete. BUt obviously after so many tries, only 8 out of 9 files are complete so this is where UltraISO comes in. Open the ISo which u just make with IML2DVD regardless of the 8 of 9 files completion.
In UltraISO, when u put the modified iso in, double click on the iso and click YES to whatever is asked. NOw u will see all the files there, except SMBOOT folder is empty if u clicked on it. what u can do is jus Delete the SMBOOT folder, and then copy the SMBOOT folder from the smboot dir which u modified SMBOOT folder and paste it into the iso. After that once u see the SMBOOT folder in UltraISO, double click on it, and make sure all the files are in there this time. ONe last step, rename all the files u have in there that are FILExx to FILExx., just add a period to each of them.
Now close Ultra ISo and USE Nero or anything iso burning software to burn the iso to a cd and load it with swapmagic 3.3 or 3.6 and it will install those elfs into your Mem Card.
Thats it! There is an easy way of doing it, but as for now, I'm just trying to be as detailed as possible so if you got stuck anywhere, just let me know.
