@anyone burning a dvd5....

You do not have to use WinHex....
All that is required is DVD Decrypter. The only reason to use Winhex is if you cant use decrypter because of book settings issues or if you are a complete moron and have to use a more difficult method to do the same job. Alkohols post mentioned earlier in this thread is the best and EASIEST method by far. DVD Decrypter achieves 83-88% and WinHex achieves 100%, but they are both the same level of achievement. WinHex just makes the image burnable to dvd5 whereas dvd decypter burns all that it can until it runs out of room. But they are the same outcome. Resulting in a backup that is in no way less or more than the other method. The only other upside with WinHex is that you can use dvd-r to burn the image at the end whereas in nearly 99.9% of cases dvd-r will not allow overburning in DVD Decrypter (i could be wrong hence the 99.9%)

As for the newbies, READ THE THREAD. You will learn and gain much from reading all the threads at afterdawn....Stop posting things like "can someone please post a full guide" IT's ALL HERE...just read it you lazy prongs. Stop whingeing about how long the thread is and get reading. What is it with people these days, everyone else wants someone else to do the work. I will not be accepting anymore private mail regarding this issue (how to burn) it has been covered (last count 8 times). Start reading or go to another forum where you can ask dumb questions because you are lazy??????

Nephilim, put this one to bed.....

When GT4 is completely back-up playable on DVD-5 we can then start a new thread. This one's growing mould. It's all been covered. No need to babysit when it's all here. And to all my critics of this post, yes i was a newbie too, but the difference is I did a lot of reading before I even considered joining so that i would have something to give back to this forum instead of posting crap and wasting time.

Men I'm screwed...
I've tried more than once to boot the original GT4 in my PS2 like I've said before with no sucess, because my Messiah mod-chip can't be disabled.
I've got XPORT to use in my PS2, can anyone paste me the OPTION FILE to put in my PS2, 'cause without the Intro Movie option OFF I can't boot the game...

winhex is a valuable tool in reducing, well not exactly reducing, but can assist in making a 100% DVD5,if you are experienced enough to use it you can edit many things in the PS2 data, now as someone stated i think it was simsim1,(i hope i named the right person :)..there are too many people to mention on here on their hard work and efforts)he tried winhex or something similiar, but because $ony are getting tricky and put encrypted and non encrypted data .....all over the place i might add, made it difficult to pick up in win hex, without sounding rude,do some homework on PS2 ripping before taking shots at people that are working so hard in achieving a DVD5 for people like you :)

@Techniks. You don't need XPORT you can use a bin/cue and load from cd. Instructions are at http://www.forumcommunity.net/?t=903119&view=getlastpost (The top part of the page is foreign. Click "Chiudi spot" on the top right corner of the ad to remove it).

Saves are available from http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/save/561066.html although these are pretty much cheat saves. Make sure you get the right save for your version (NA is North American/NTSC version, EU is the European/PAL version).

@Sed8ed. I see you are still the same happy guy! Yes it's quite understandable you are a bit peaved about all these people asking the same questions, but I tend to look at it as an occupational hazard. This thread is still valuable in our quest to get GT4 fully DVD-5ed so It really doesn't warrant closing just yet. After all we'd not have got this far if it hadn't been for this thread (Remember Alkohol??). The Winhex method is there for people who's PS2s won't boot DVD+Rs (Mine doesn't although it does with Swap Magic) and will work with even the cheaper DVD-Rs.

@Samuels. Thanks for your continued support. Have you had a go with the winhex yet?

@evnflow. Thanks man. The encouragement is great. I picked the hex thing up pretty quick. I've used hex editors before, but nothing as advanced as Winhex... and not with two-and-a-half gig files.

I'm still very confused. You can find a lot of files in the Layer-1 vol file, which leads me to believe that it's just loads of files stuck together in some sort of archive. But how's it indexed? I'm still hard at it... mainly because it's bloody good fun to play with. Doubtless I'll eventually tire of it and give up but not until I've exhausted all my options.

how many discs are you gonna waste on this game, i dont think this game would ever be on a dvd5, just go and buy a dual layered dvd writer, their not that expensive, you can get a good one for under $40, and also sony would replace your games if they got damaged whether if you have guarantee or not. Read their terms and conditions. I got my GT4 replaced by Sony after it was damaged.

@Sharky. There are several valid points in your post..... and they've all been covered. Something else I want to point out though. If a person's PS2 doesn't play DL Disks (Such as Technik's Messiah chip), should he/she then go and buy a new modchip? Or perhaps a new PS2 as many struggle with DVD+R DLs.. I know mine does.

How many posts are you going to waste on this thread complaining? Sorry about the tone but if you feel this thread is a waste of time, why are you still visiting and posting?

i have to agree, this post is just repeating what was posted a few pages back which is how to rip it to a dvd5, why not just make a new theread on how to rip it and what is needed and just sticky it so we can then create a new thread and start from scratch at getting the whole game onto dvd5 (arcade mode and gt mode)..im not arguing as this thread got my backup working! (thanks again everyone!) its only a suggestion!
