I have got many video tapes that are withering away after usage, i have no special input av cards in my computer, so i was wondering...
is it possible to get a cable, AV to 1394, and use the VCR as a video device, eg input into nero vision and other capture softs...
if not can some-one make some suggestions to me about something i could do.
dont know whether it means anything buts i got a hp pavillion 724a standard, no mods.

Canopus ADVC-110.
VCR to the Canopus. It takes the VHS and digitizes it, then hooks up to the computer via 1394 (firewire).
Free software such as WinDV will capture to your hard drive.
You will then need to encode the video to mpeg-2, and author, and burn.
Faster may be a hardware mpeg-2 capture card (Hauppauge PVR-150/250/500 or similar), which will capture via composite (RCA) connection from the VCR, and save it as mpeg-2, ready to author and burn.
This cuts down on the total time, and quality can be as good as the other method (with the right software/settings).

Black holes are where God divided by zero...
