Heads up to rippin Man of The Huose from Sony Pictures. It DOES NOT rip using Dvd Shrink. It stops around 2% right after the main menu is finished. One way I found around it currently is to use Dvd Decryter and then Dvd Shrink.

Yes, Shrink's out and would not be able to handle more recent movies. Now Decrypter is gone too................

Install AnyDVD and run it in the background while you rip (with Shrink or Decrypter):
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/anyd...

Or better yet... try Dela's guide... (very hard to find, being on Afterdawn's front homepage and all):
http://www.afterdawn.com/
Or, try the direct link below:
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6651.cfm

That should get you on your way... It's the stupid new Sony protection you're dealing with... Stupid, SONY!

Sidenote: DVDshrink STILL ROCKS! It was just NOT meant to deal with all these brand-spanking new protections. The days of Shrink ripping absolutely everything are over... that said... there are other solutions... some of which do still rely on Shrink! :-)

Ripped Man of The House with Decrypter but when I go to use shrink to shrink it down to size I get file maybe to big for dvd message - do I use a custom ratio like 4330 or 4360 or do I just delete the widescreen version? I'd like to keep both if I can but I could live with the fullscreen version alone if I have too! thanks friends & resident geniuses of afterdawn.com - Peace & happy burning!

I did the widescreen only, the movie is 91 minutes long. If you do the whole disk you are looking at just over 50% compression, you can do it and see how it comes out. I would keep it down to 4330 so not to burn to the edge.

just backed up Man Of The House using...........

AnyDvd....DvdShrink-ReAuthor(movie Only)...DVDDecypter to burn
in that order....................This Movie is THAT tipical SONY
CRAP aswell...........

DvDShrink still works fine with anydvd, if you have AnyDvd installed
you shouldn't have to save to your HD first. i have done all the lastest movie backups in this manner. not let down once yet....

here's the log below from ANYDVD..look at the crap on this Disk
it had 85 Files for the Whole Disk, and The Movie Only was 8 Files
....DvDShrink 15 minutes encode, DVDDecypter 10 min to burn

Video DVD (or CD) label: MAN_OF_THE_HOUSE
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

Found & removed RCE protection!
Found & removed wrong DVD structure!
Found & removed structural copy protection (Arccos, Puppetlock)!
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Found & removed 2 bad sector protections!
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

See all the crap they put on to try to stop, backups....HA HA
SONY.............................

this disk also has a FULL Screen Version and a Widescreen Version
if you open disks with DVDShrink you will see that on the lists
on the right side Movie Title 5 is Full Screen, Movie Title 1 is
Wide Screen Version..........i think this may be the problem for
some people trying to back up entire Disks..................

good day...........
best luck..........
free.............

Okay I really thank everyone for helping out when I come across a dvd that's a tough burn ! I should check the post first to see if that particular movie that I'm backing up is a problem or not ! But like a typical man I'm more a fly by the seat of my pants kinda guy ya' know throw all the switches push all the buttons and see what happens then read the instructions! Anyways I have MAN of The House on the hard drive now waiting to be burned! What I ended up doing is eliminating the FRench language track and that seemed to solve my problem about having a file thats to big ! So if everything went okay I should have both versions of the movie just like I wanted ! minus the french track ! So again my friends @ afterdawn.com Thanx for your knowledge patience & kindness even when I ask a dumb question ! To all Peace & happy burning!

My theory might not be true, but I first used DVD Decrypter to xtract the movie and it stopped at 1%. I thought the disc is damaged but it wasn't. So i switched the disc to my other drive. Run the same DVD Decrypter, same procedure and this time Dvd decrypters doesn't complain at all, but instead successfully extract the movie. The same succeed I obtained from using DVDFab Decrypter. I think the problem can also be your DVD Drive. But wahtever it was, i strongly recommend you all using Dvdfab Decrypter, it works great and my movies runs perfect with out any skip.

Has this happened to anyone else? I was able to use DVDDecrypter on this movie and used shrink to encode and burn it. I reauthored it but it will only play on one of my dvd players. I am using Maxells by the way. What's funny is that it will play if I skip the first chapter. If not it will not start playing. I can rewind back to the beginning of the movie and it will play all the way but will not start on it's own. That is on my JVC. When I use my "El Cheapo" AMW player it starts and plays fine. In my PS2 it will not play at all. I noticed on the disc that it did not start burning from the inner ring. There is a gap then u see where it starts playing. Never had that happen before. I'm gonna re backup the original today and not reauthor to see what happens.

btitus- Maxell is good media but sometimes certain players simply don't like certain brands of media ! have you tried another brand? also Ironincally many times Expensive DVD players will have trouble playing DVD Backups of your movies where a EL Cheapo as you say will not ! I would try another brand of media first ! Also have you tried that dvd on other players - friends or family? maybe? also if your burner allows you to BITSET or BOOKTYPE your DVD+R media you might try that also as that may help - booktyping in essecnce makes your recorded DVD+R movie appear to your player or Drive as if it was a dvd ROm and thus maybe more compatable ! I would also try another burn except withought reauthoring this time! Or if you were using DVD+R try DVD-R or vice versa depending on which you used! On the PS-2 Issue not owning one my knowledge is limmited except I've read post that they can be picky about media ! I have backed up movies for my grandson on quality DVD-R media that will play on everything but his PS-2 so go figure ! Anyway btitus hope this was helpful in someway to you & others! GOOD LUCK with your backups ! PEACE& HAPPPY BURNING _ -CIAO!

BIGTOXY69-Maxells have always played on the JVC player. I noticed a space between the the inner circle of the disc and where it appeared to start burning. The JVC player appears to not be reading that part of the disc. I'm going to burn another copy this evening using full disc back and another using reauthor to see if there are any other problems.
