I have tried unsuccessfully to use the Accu 4.7 -r media with my SOny (have the firmware upgrade installed)...Using it with Nero or MY DVD...as soon as it gets to end and tries to write the "lead out"...get media error and bombs....I know its not the drive or software since I have no problem writing to the more expensive media. Would like to hear from anyone else that has same problem or some info on this>>> Price is right .84 but kind of useless .

Are you using firewire or usb2? I had problem with burning all -r disks and switched to firewire and burn accu -r disk at 2x.

Neither...the drive is an IDE device running off the IDE controller card. I seem to get this problem only with the ACCU -r media. If I use the DVD+ (name brand) or DVD+or-RW..works fine..seems when it gets to the finalization ot the DVD (writing lead out) that it bombs out with an invalid media error....

I've got the same prob. on minus (with Nero) but + is ok.
I was afraid it was the media, but I've seen lot's of people saying the same thing (searched the messages for Sony DRU500a), so I'm starting to think it's Nero.

I did find that if I change the write speed of Nero to 1x it seemed to work...some programs, i.e. MY DVD do not let you change the write speed and default to the top speed of the burner (2.4) which makes it bomb...interesed to hear from others on this...

This didn't work for me. However... The program that I got with the burner can burn minus discs, but it can't burn movies. That's why I tried Nero. Since I can confirm that the disks work with my burner, AND that only the plus-disks works with Nero, I have to ask:
Is there another great program for burning movies?

DVDXCOPY is a good dvd copying program. Lets you choose what titles you want but the only probem is if the DVD you want to burn is dvd-9 and you have dvd-5 then it will burn on 2 dvd disks. Dvd Decyptor and DVD2ONE is also good. You guys should check out http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ good for all your CDR and DVDR needs. also www.cdrmediaworld.com is good for info on blank dvd/cdr disks, firmware, and programs.

i'm having the same problem.
I bought 500 accus.
Everything worked fine at 2x with my first set of 25.
now everything is crapping out for me at 1x and 2x. it hangs at 100%, writing the lead-out.
eventually it says "illegal media"
sometimes the dvd works fine even after the error.

ACCU IS CRAP MEDIA... BEWARE ALL USERS IN THE FORUM... SPREAD THE WORDS BEFORE SOMEONE BUYS ANOTHER 500 PACK. u tell me 25+% coster at couple cents cheaper is actually cheaper, i mean c'mon it takes an hour to burn a dvd... i dunno what your 1 hour is worth... but i'm guessing atleast u get paid more then $6.75 an hour.

Im disapointed in the sony 500ax.
I paid the extra $50 so i could burn at 2x with cheap media. Big mistake. I also have a pioneer AO5 at work and so far ive burned about 50 at 1x. no coasters yet.
How can the sony burn so many coasters at 1x, while the pioneer loves the accus.. very weird.

I have the Sony DRU500a and had the very same problems burning with Nero. Upgraded to 1.0f firmware and the 'invalid media' problems when burning the lead out went away.
I have used both Intenso and Traxdata DVD+R media with no problems since the upgrade.

Dru is a new drive, therefore alot of media in the market is not included is the pre-released firmware... after u upgrade the firmware it rocks... well I would stick with DVD-R media instead of DVD+R media anyways... and DVD-R media brand is REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT... DON'T ASK WHY U BURN COASTERS WHEN U BUY CHEAP CRAP..

I have the DRU500A with the 1.0f firmware upgrade and to date I have not had one coaster as a result of the drive - DXC has done a couple of funnys but not resulted in a coaster.
I have tried a few of the -r media, no +r yet as it is too costly. A supplier in Perth sells cheap x1 and some x2 -r and all just seems to work. I have had less (well none actually) problems with this drive than the LG CD burner I have. Maybe it is becasue it is a new machine with a decent processor (AMD 2400+ XP)and reasonable Ram (512MB).

I have successfully used over 150 discs of ACCU DVD-R media. All burned at 2x with a DRU500A IDE drive 1.0g firmware. Anything higher and it's 1X max. I have burned with Ulead DVD Workshop, Nero, DVD Decrypter, Roxio DVD Creator with no problems under WindowsXP Pro SP1. The media has worked in every Set-top DVD player, PS2 v4 and up and every DVD-ROM drive I could get my hands on. I just wanted everyone to know that there is nothing wrong with the media that I have acquired from cdrdvdrmedia.com and meritline.com.
