I would like to copy my VHS tapes (I have hundreds) to
DVD. I would like to do this for myself only. I don't know where to begin. I have 2000XP. So I need a list of what to buy. I would like to do this the simplest and cheapest (but good) way possible. I'n not a computer wiz so please don't dazzle me with how smart you all are, I already know that. HA HA HA I also need a good cheap source for buying DVD's in bulk. Most movies are about 2 hours long or so. Do I need a special kind of DVD for this type of work?
I don't care if this is a time comsuming process.
Dude, try asking about this in the general dvd copying forums, this is a ps2 forum... i can tell you you'll probably need a T.V. card of some sorts to be able to hook your VCR up to your pc, and you'll be best off using verbatim dvd+ discs, but i wouldn't know what kind of software you'd need to capture the video...good luck with your search though.
http://www.meritline.com is a decent place to buy in bulk. i bought the "BeAll" 500pk for less than 200 dollars. out of the first 150 that i have used, i have only made about 5 coasters due to incorrect burning speeds. they work well for video and file storage.
you will need a tv tuner card installed on your computer. i have an ATI Tv-Wonder-VE. it's about 3 years old, and it is only moderately good. i have not done VHS to DVD with it because i'm lazy. a friend gave me the name Hauppauge. it is a tv tuner card, and i assume it has software attached to it as well. Google it to find details and pricing info. http://www.pricewatch.com is a place to see if you can get deals on equipment like that. a friend showed me this website for building a DVR/PVR, which would more than likely help you out just the same http://www.gbpvr.com.
the process: load tv card software on pc. put tv card into pc. plug vcr output into tuner card input, and audio cables where they're supposed to go. use the RCA/Composite cables for this, trust me. turn everything back on. see if your software is working by playing VHS video thru the software on the pc. if you like what you see try to record a few minutes of video for testing purposes. i would suggest MPEG2 encoding for your video, and 16Bit audio.
if everything works out for you, then i hope that i was of some help. i hope this was simple enough to understand. and next time put this kinda post in general setion. this area focuses more on Playstation 2 dvd stuff.
so sorry for putting my question in the wrong place, I thought I was starting something new in a general area. I'll be more careful, thanks for your patience and information.
