Hey guys,

I have a Fantom Premier 16x Double Layer DVD-RW/+RW USB2.0 and I haven't had a problem with it until now.

I recently purchases Taiyo Yuden 16X DVD-R media from supermediastore.com yet it seems to only allow me to burn at 4X when using Shrink + Nero.

DVDs finish burning at around 20 minutes. Is it burning at 16X although it says 4X on the burn screen? How long should I expect it to take to finish a full DVD?

first of all, i would make sure your FIRMWARE is up to date on your dvd burner, this is USUALLY the cause for unrecognized/newer media performing at a lower speed than manufacturer suggests, if it is even recognized at all...

secondly, check DMA/PIO mode settings on your computer, this MIGHT be the reason why your burner is burning so slow, if it says 4x, it's hovering around 4x, maybe a little higher, but definitely NOT @16x...16x burning (which you should NEVER do due to risk of errors, burning slower @4x or @8x would be good for 16x media) your burn would have been completed in like 6-8 minutes :) (i am assuming that when you said

you mean from START to FINISH of ACTUAL BURN, not encoding or any other re-authoring processes)

actual time to expect to finish a full dvd really depends on the size of the original, larger it is, naturally, longer it takes to encode; if you use deep analysis setting in shrink and add in the factor of how fast you set your burn speed in Nero, times will vary according to what you use and what you don't use...i would suggest to you in Nero you don't allow it to burn @max speed, i have some of those TYG03s myself and if i forget to adjust burn speed, they WILL in fact burn @16x..and the chances of errors is MUCH greater despite it being terrific media~

hope this is a good start in rectifying your issues w/ slow speed. i am thinking it is either firmware/DMA issues or a combination of both~ :)
