In a few weeks, I am planning on buying myself a new (used) PS2 and a modchip (DMS4 E.Z.I. ModChip / DMS4 E.Z.I. Pro ModChip or DMS4 Pro ModChip / DMS4 Lite ModChip) depending on which version PS2 I can get my hands on. I have a friend to help me put it together, so I am fine there.

My questions are as followed.

After I install my Modchip, I will be able to play backup and an acually game itself?

I want to put a hard drive in, but I know nothing about doing it. For example, it there a special HDD you need, or can I go to Best Buy and buy an internal / external HDD?

If I do get a HDD, I have been hearing people talk about something called the HDD Loader. I want to know if I need to get it, or there is another way to make my PS2 recognize the HDD and play games loaded on to it?

Also, If I want to load games on to the HDD, is it a simple plug into your computer, or do I have to do a secret dance and handshake to make it work?

I will have more questions as they come, thanks to anyone who helps.

Hi there, I'm new to the whole ps2 hard drive bit myself, and many of your questions are the same as some of my own. What I do know is, HDLoader is outdated, I believe. There is now HDAdvance, and, if you happen to get an external hard drive (USB loading), USB Extreme. I'm not sure what advantages the newer ones have over the older ones, but I think it's mostly compatibility with newer ps2 games.

I've got a regular 200GB hard drive for a computer installed in a USB enclosure for my ps2, mind you, I haven't gotten it to work yet. I'm sure it's just a matter of getting the right software onto it(ie. .ELF files)
