Why do I need a CUE?

Greetings,

I've restored many backups using only BIN files. I can't recall ever using the CUE that's typically included with the BIN.

So why do CUEs exist? Am I going to get bit someday, because I didn't click the CUE instead of the BIN?

the .cue file was basically direction for how to burn the .bin file properly but, I guess the new burning problems don't need these direction and you can just choose the bin.
