Hello, yesterday I installed a flip top on my PS2 and have the Swap Magic 3.6 discs. I used DVD decryptor to back up a few of my games (Kingdom Hearts, Tiger Woods 2005, NFL 2K5) onto DVD -Rs. My PS is a version 9. Anyways, my swap magic disc hardly ever reads when I reset my PS2. It almost always goes to the Browser screen. Every once and a while it will load Swap Magic up. When Swap Magic did load yesterday I checked Kingdom Hearts and it played fine, but TW 2005 just said "loading" and then the disc stopped spinning (is there something different that needs to be done to backup this game?). Then this morning, I popped in my original TW game and the PS2 is just going straight to the Browser screen again. I have also noticed a clicking/scratching sound when ever the PS2 is trying to read my discs. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this? Thanks.
TW 2005 needs rebuilding. It has dummy files in it called something like 'padding.bin' and another one too, can't remember the name. i've read that a few people have had success backing this up after a rebuild, but mine still doesn't work.
as for SM, a lot of the time mine just goes to the browser, occasionally it boots properly though. don't know if this happens to other users.
i tried to boot a back up earlier and a couple of time SM sent me back to the browser! strange, but it's still working with most games.

But if your console's warranty is still intact, I reccomend calling Sony for a replacement. (They were ordered to do this because the lasers aren't exactly top quality)
As stated in my previous post, all it needs is a good, thorough clean. This proccess is free therefore, there is no point in purchasing a brand new laser, If the problem can indeed be solved through cleaning it.
However, if ufbrad24 does not feel upto the task (which is a relatively easy task if you refer to the link of a well-done guide I posted) then he can call up Sony and request that they fix it, or send a replacement.

ps. - If your warranty is not intact, and you have opened your console up at all, then unfortunately you have voided your warranty, and you will have to either buy a new console, or purchase a new laser should cleaning your current one prove to be unsuccessful.
