Alllllrighty then.....my problem. I have burned about 8 movies on the my new DVD burner with the same discs (Fuji Film). Of all my completed burns, none have been bad (except due to some software issues). Recently I burned "The Aviator" and while I was watching it, it started skipping. I thought it was a bad burn, but when I went back to review the same part, it was fine. Then shortly after that it started skipping again. I thought it was a bad burn so I burned a new one. This one skips too, but not until about 20 mins further into the movie. To describe the skiiping effect: it starts to show some chunkiness and then skips a few secs. Sometimes it will just slow and eventually freeze. Any ideas here?

Skipping normally due to the use of poor quality media, burning too fast or the use of labels on burnt DVD.

i've also had that problem also, try recording at 2x (sure its slow but you never know). close ALL programs( internet, firewall, anti-virus programs etc...), and give it a shot.

Yeah I set Decrypter to burn at 4x. Ill try 2x and see how it goes. Damn I hope all the rest are ok. Kinda sucks hat you have to watch the movie to see if it was backed up ok....otherwise its pointless. But who wants to watch every one of their movies on the spot? I thought the discs I was getting were good but I keep hearing different. Yeah, and nothing is running in the background....

You'll find that most experienced 'experienced burneres' do not check there burns when done, as they know they have a successful process.

Does it skip in your PC or standalone?
If it is your standalone, it may require a firmware update.
Your burner may require a firmware update.
The quality of your media maybe a little low.
The quality of your media may not be suitable for fast burning, so slow it down.

It does sound like a compatibility issue to me, you may well be better trying some other branded media aswell - ritek, taiyo yuden, azo, tdk, maxell..................

I only check mine if I swap media brands, other than that I just burn it and store it..............

Good luck, and Welcome to Afterdawn

Thanks guys for the info and thanks baabaa for the welcome =]

Well even though it doesn't always skip in the exact same place in the movie, it does seems to skip in general sections. Not sure how to word that one right but I think you get what I am saying. I put it in my PC and it isn't skipping at all.

My standalone player is a Playstation2. I had a problem wih it reading games and movies a while back, so I pulled it apart and cleaned the lense. That did the trick the last time. I tried it again last night bit it didn't help with my problem with The Aviator. I'll try a firmware upgrade on it and repost.

Yes, I think you've answered your own question there with using a PS2, especially as you have had troubles in the past with it..................

Try the discs in a friends standalone, as everything points to your PS2 being the problem.....................

Maybe worth investing in a cheapy dvd player (if you can), and keep your PS2 for the more important gaming option.............

I bought my PS2 when it first came out. I had a friend who was into video games bigtime and he urged me to sit overnight in line to get one.....so I did =] I was going to purchase a DVD player at the same time too, so instead I got the PS2 and had both the DVD player and gaming console. Anyways, since I have one of the first PS2s you can imagine how old it is.

The reason why I am not adamant on buying a new DVD player is because I also have also invested in component and fiber optic cables (of course for the better picture and sound. Buying a new DVD player also means buying more expensive cables in order to rival the quality that I have been accustomed to. My graphics card has video out though, so maye I can use my PC in the meantime.

I am going to read up in the forums about a good DVD player. Do you guys recommend any player in particular?
