Hi there, I just bought a pack with Magic Swap discs and this slide card tool.

I am trying lots of things to get my back-ups to work, but no success so far.

I first tried to backup an original PS2 disc. I made a image file with 120% Alcohol then burned it at a very low speed to a DVD+R disc. I wanted to play it in the PS2 (I have the bigger model PS2) but the programm Magic Swap says : Not a valid PS2 disc.

Then I tried a downloaded game, just to see if it might work. Maybe that I make wrong back-ups?
I burned the game on a DVD+R and on a DVD-R disc, but with both I get the same message, not a valid PS2 Disc.

Both games didn't need a Fix. ( I burnd Beach Volleyball and Spongebob Eyetoy) and they are not listed that they need a Fix.

Anyone has any idea how i can get back-ups to work?
I use the slidecard as follow :

I turn the PS2 on. Put in my Magic Swap disc (DVD version).
Then starts a screen with I can select :
Normal boot
Video boot PAL
Video Boot NTSC
under you can select X for normal boot, a block for special boot
I select Video Boot PAL and also tried it with normal boot.
Then I opened the tray, put in my backup, closed the tray
and clicked on X button, but all say : Invalid PS2 disc.

Did I do something wrong??
i can't find any good guide for this magic swap 3.6 ptogramm either. This video for magic swap uses another version.

If anyone can help me out, please let me know.

Hi there

I have a old Playstation 2, the large model. The one which is hard to get the front off the tray.

I used for DVD's.
Mmore DVD-R 4.7 GB 1-4x Speed
SK DVD+R 4.7 GB 1-4x Speed

I tried to check these DVD's on VCDhelp if they are compatible with console games, but i can't check out what is the mediacode

I also have here a
Philips DVD+R 1-8x speed 4.7GB
Imation DVD+R 1-8x speed 4.7GB
But I haven't tried to burn on these DVD's, because i guess it might fail also. Do you know if my discs should be compatible with my PS2?

I also tried to put a DVD-R and DVD+R movie, same DVD type on which i burned my PS2 games, but then the PS2 says : it starts loading then it says x error when trying to play.

By the way i never played any DVD+R or DVD-R before on my PS2. But i shall try if any DVD -backup movie will play. Will let you know

See if you start the Ps2 up without anything in it and go to the black browser screen and press triangle you should see something like SCPH-XXXXXX can you note it down, some Ps2'2 don't like playing DVD+R so that could be the problem also the media your using, i cant say I've ever heard of it but that doesnt mean it's not good but i would try the Philips DVDs and see if they work.

Hi, I just checked out if i can play any back-up movies on my PS 2.
These discs worked :

Imation DVD-R
Princo DVD-R
Sunstar DVD-R
TDK DVD+R

This one doesn't work
Imation DVD+R = isn't working

So could it be i used the wrong brand of DVDs?
If yes, can you mayve advice me what to do, which DVD's i can use?
If i might burn my PS2 games on Imation DVD-R, would they work then?
I don't want to waist too much money on spending DVD's that don't work

I would try the (edit>) Philips DVD+R, i know it can be very frustrating but it's something that you have to do to determine the best dvds for you Ps2, I would recommend Verbatim DVDs I've never had a problem with them.

Edit: your Ps2 is a version 9 so it should have no problems reading dvd+r i would say it's the media your using. Also remember to burn at x2 or x4.

Hi there, i just tried this philips DVD+R too, just by burning a DVD movie on it, but the DVD also fails to play.
With all my back-up DVD movies I get a black screen on the same brands i used the back-up for my PS2 games, failed to play because of an error. Then i get to see a black screen with a sort of type-board in the screen, with all letters A-Z.
I guess this means my discs are wrong?
The movies play well in my normal DVD player by the way.

okay, so i guess i need to buy new dvd's. i only have to check what they have in the stores.
But do you think, if the movie on any of DVD-R works fine, then the PS2 backup should work if i burn it on the same sort of DVD?
I always burn slow speed, 1 or 2x speed.

My PS2 plays normal games, that are original ones only. then it has no troubles at all.

it also plays some sort of back-up DVD movies, but not all.

I shall try to burn the game right now on the philips disc.

To be honest i don't have a clue as to why it wont work, it could be the media but even the Philips dvd is not working which is very weird. Did you make sure that the ps2 tray was closed properly after swapping?

Hi,

I opened the tray by putting the slide card in it, left side, moved it to the right side and pulled the tray open.
Then put the PS2 backup in it, and pushed it with my hands back again.
Then the PS2 makes some weird noise and then says : not a valid PS2 disc. Is there something maybe i did wrong with it?
I didn't used the eject button.

See when you say pushed it back in with your hands did you use the slidetool again to shut the tray?

no i guess not when closing it. How should you do it?
I open it with the slide-tool, ,move to the right, then if i push it back, the slide tool card isn't inside or attached to the tray.
It only is there when i have my hands on it. Maybe i didn't close the tray good enough?
What should i do to close it? Use the slide tool moving it to the left? and should it do something or how can i recognise it is closed good enough?
Does it always make such noise when trying to start up a game?

OK when you open it with the slidetool you put it in the far left then you move it to the right, you then fell something and when to continue to push to the right the tray pops open, after that you put the backup in and close the tray with your hands, then put the slidtool under the tray again except this time to the far right and push to the left and again you fell something so keep pushing to the left till the try closes, you will know when you do, this is kinda hard the 1st time but you will get it.

it took me a long time to get it to shut using the slidetool but don't worry you will get it.
