I could not find anything specific thru the search function so here goes.
How good - or bad - are the FujiFilm 8x -R MIT discs???
My manager wanted to grab some -Rs and since Best Buy had the 25 piece spindles of the FujiFilm on sale for 9.99 I was gonna get those for him but I opted for the Verbatims 8x -Rs. But those were 19.99.
So ... how are those Fuji MITs??
Also, for my manager's benefit, what -R discs should I look for on sale??
I only buy Taiyo Yuden +Rs for myself so I am sorta cloudy on -Rs discs

Thanks guys...

Most Best Buy stores are carrying both the MIJs and the MIT Fujis. You have look at the package. The MIJ - are TYG02, the MIT - are usually Prodisc F-01. They are not bad media but it all depends on your firmware and what write stats it has. In my opinion, I will only buy Taiyo Yuden media or Verbatim media. But that is a personal decision. There are many medias MIT that are very good. It all depends on what writer you are using and what firmware you have.

you are NOT doing yourself a disfavor to buy the Verbatim DVD-R discs~ they are great stuff~ HOWEVER, if you want to take advantage of the sale best buy is currently having, then, i WOULD not return those Verbs for the MADE IN TAIWAN FUJI dvd-r~ :)

that is MY opinion of course, because the prodisc manufacturered media on the FUJI made in taiwans is decent just like aland stated, however, are NOT in the same category as TY and Verbatim in general~

lot of people have had success w/ the prodisc, however, is NOT highly recommended as they are considered budget/2nd tier media; once again, NOT same category/level as TY or Verbatim~ :)

if your manager NEEDS the discs immediately, then i guess there is no choice but to opt for the more expensive Verbatims~ if you can't find any of the MADE IN JAPAN fuji in the DVD-R format (very few stores carry them anymore from what i have read here in this forum); then if you don't want to substitute QUALITY over price, then just keep the Verbs as they are great media to burn to~

this really depends on HOW badly your manager needs the discs...if he needs them NOW, not later..then you made a good choice. if he doesn't need them for awhile, i would wait until Verb has another sale to save some money~ :) its all based on necessity...

Dont worry Kivory666, I am well aware of how superb the Verbatims are. There wasnt even a question in my mind of which was superior between the Verbs and the MIT Fuji.
My boss - who is also a good friend, we both work at a rock club on the Bowery - needed discs immediately. When I called him to state that the Fujis were MITs and that they were not as good as the MIJs he asked me to choose a brand based on my knowledge and I immediately went for the 16x -R Verbs. He is not a stickler for disc type/quality so I wondered if the MITs were worth it as it would have saved him 10 bucks.
Too bad Best Buy refused to pricematch the sale price on the circuit city website for the Verbs.

i just returned my fuji made in taiwan dvd-r's to best buy, they didnt work at all for me.BB also has on sale a 50 pack of sony 8 x dvd-rs for $20 which comes out to be the same price as the fuji's.the sony's also say made in taiwan, but i have had great luck with them after about 25 or so burns, and most would probably agree they are better than the taiwan fuji's.

Can you post the media code as well as the serial numbers on the inner hub of the discs??

i would also like to know as well~ media ID code for those Sonys :)

it's easy to compare 2 companies that have media produced in taiwan...to say the Sony made in taiwans are "better" than the fuji made in taiwans, you are partially correct~ :) if the sonys u purchased have the sony coding...i will have to agree that they are better than the prodisc coding found on MOST fuji made in taiwans :)

but, this comment DOES NOT hold true when comparing the Fuji/Sony DVD+R media MADE IN JAPAN..they are IDENTICAL media codes, IDENTICAL manufacturers (Taiyo Yuden) and i have hundreds of BOTH kinds...both are equal in quality/playback/compatibility/etc...only difference is the "fuji" label or the "sony" label on top of the discs. there should NOT be any discrepencies between the two brands if you purchase the DVD+R formats that are MADE IN JAPAN~ :)

just wanted to clarify that...

i was basically asking for the media ID code that you got for those made in taiwan discs...hehe...the coding on the inner hub is only really necessary when checking for GENUINE Taiyo Yudens and/or GENUINE Verbatims~ :)

the media ID coding for the Sony 8x DVD-R made in taiwan SHOULD be: SONY08D1, i was just making sure as some people lately are getting very confused between the fuji/sony and receving TYs and such...in either format..etc..etc...just double checking~

u can check the media coding using programs such as DVD Decrypter, dvdinfopro, dvdidentifyer...etc...

My Fuji 8X DVD-R made in Taiwan #25 disk spindall bought at BB turned out to have media code FUJIFILM03. I am on the second spindall and have had no problems whatsoever. No coasters. Appearance quality is good, and burns play well.

good to hear stan~ :) just wanted to see what people have been getting in terms of media coding lately~ this gives others a better idea when buying locally and offers some opinions as to which OTHERS say are good and have worked for them, as with all media, it comes down to what works well for YOUR OWN individual setup...it's just interesting to get some opinions from people around the U.S. and other countries for that matter~ :)

those sonys working well for you pholmes? i hope so..they are decent media~ good to hear from you...

hehehe..my best friend will always be Taiyo Yuden~ as head of the TY army...i will never choose another alliance :) Verbatims are good too~ but, locally...as long as you get the MIJ= MADE IN JAPAN 1x-8x DVD+R format, FUJI and SONY could both be your new best friends :)

(this is so far, until someone notices that they change manufacturers, which is very possible, but in the meantime..both the DVD+R format for FUJI/SONY Made In Japan are YUDEN000T02 coding = genuine Taiyo Yuden coding) :)

good luck w/ your future backups...use the best, and continued success will be in ur grasp :)

personally, i prefer the DVD+R format, but that is just me...you should try them out...it's especially good if your burner allows you to booktype them to dvd-rom...this offers even MORE compatibility for your standalones...

also, the fact that the DVD+R are TYs (made in japan for you)...and the DVD-R (made in taiwans for you) are NOT, naturally, i would suggest the TYs over the sony/fuji brand anyday of the week~ :)
