Hi I have an Onkyo DR-S 2.0 dvd player that works perfectly except it won't play my sanford and son 1st seasons disks. I've cleaned the disks and they work in other players so it is not the disks. The onkyo plays all other dvds too.

Everytime I put in the sanford dvds it loads forever than says "Please check disk"

Also it can't be because its an old dvd player with an older laser cause I watched the disks on the onkyo player when I got them?

Any ideas or explanations of why this is happening?

what i would try is burning the disks to DVD+R and try playing them.

is it a store bought DVD or a backup?

if its a backup try using a different brand blank DVD or try using a DVD+R and booktype it the DVD-ROM when buring it or vice verse using a DVD-R instead of a DVD+R

and make sure your using good blank media as in Taiyo Yuden,Verbatium or Ritek. the cheap media sometimes wont play on some standalone players.

... If the discs used to play in the machine, maybe you should try running a lens cleaner in it ...

Its the original store bought dvd, I am going to try cleaning the lens but I dont think thats the problem because every other disk in my dvd collection loads up instantly.

They are all region one dvds and only some of them play.

Now some of the tv show dvds dont play.

Have you tried re-setting the dvd player to it's factory settings?
It will tell in your manual, how to do this.
When you do it, you'll have to turn DTS back on, and redo any other settings you had changed.
Sometimes this helps and sometimes it doesn't.
Good luck!
