I have a Samsung stand alone that plays and has played + and - dvd formats. Trouble is now when I back up one of my dvd's, they wont play on it. They play on my playstation, and computer dvd player. Some of the older backed up dvd's still play on the stand alone, but my newer one won't. I've done the following, thinking it may be the problem:
Uninstall Nero
Use 'Clean up' to remove any left over Nero.
Uninstall DVD Shrink.
run 'clean up'
Defrag.
Reinstall them both.
Lowered the burnable space on Shrink to 4300Mb. and only back up the movie so the compression is nearly 100%
I'm currently using Verbatim dvd-. I have used GQ dvd+ with success. Some of the Verbatim backup play then later they won't...like the play is searching for somthing. Not sure if I'm missing something simple.

I think you answered your own question there. You need to be using a more reliable media.

I wish I did answer my own question. Unfortunately, not even the good media will play, or does and then stops. Is there a way to rip one of the successful back ups and compare it with one that doesn't work?

slow45,
Welcome to the forum. Go to the site below and input the exact make and model # of the Player to see what blank media works best w/ that player. If Verbatim is on the list and people are not having problems w/ that blank media then the player might be having a laser problem and it might need to be cleaned or it is on the verge of DVD Death and needs to be replaced.

You can D/L DVDinfoPro (free) and do a CRC test on the burned media to see if there are any errors on it. If there are errors then you might have burned it to fast, or your computer might have been interrupted while encoding due to DLA Packets. Make sure you did not install INCD when you INstall Nero. If you did go to Add/Remove programs and modify the install and remove INCD.
