Burning An AVI File with Toast!

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, but i've browsed around and like what I see.
Anyways I'm new to burning dvds, so far i'm 0 for 2. I have FFMPEGX,DVD2ONEX, SIZZLE, and Toast. Perfect combinations right? I guess not. So I decided to skip the three steps and go straight to toast. I tried dragging the avi file to toast, but I get an alert telling me: cannot import because a required codec could not be found. The confusing thing is the avi file works with my quicktime player, but I cannot import it into toast with a specific codec. I already have: Divx, 3ivx, and Ac3. I heard about Quicktime MPEG 2 Component, but is it necessary and worth 19.99.
I hope someone can help me!

first of all if u drag the AVI to toast it will convert it to a dvd, but it will take about 24 hours to do that. ( i know) when u say 0 for 2 are those from dvd's or from avi's? if it is from a dvd then read the guides that we havbe for that.

i have upgraded to toast 7 and it is a God send. instead of 24 hours, it is like 7 or 8. second, to get it onto a cd, then you need to start up toast, choose video cd and burn

do we know if that converts from dv to dvd?

i'm having issues too with .AVI files, wah! i'm trying to make a video CD with toast; unfortunately it's converting the files & making them too big to put on a single cd. what a pain! for example, a file that's 691 megs ends up being 800+megs, after i've dragged & dropped it, and tried to burn it. i upgraded to 7.0.1 thinking that it would take care of the problem. but nope. anybody got any tips? :( my computer is running out of space...
