I am encountering some problems with AsfTools to Converting asf to avi. A warring box pops up saying "This file used WMV1 method for video compression. Therefore the resulting AVI will not display video!....." when the program starts converting the asf file to avi; the resulting avi plays but in slow motion. I downloaded the "Windows Media Video 9 VCM" hoping to resolve the problem but unfortunately, this problem persisted. I would be grateful if you can advice me on this mater; recommendation on other software tools are also more then welcome. Thanks

thank you for your prompt reply. I will give in a go but and hopefully it will work, will let you know as soon as i get to it. I am now busy trying to fix another problem and I should start another thread.

I have been using VirtualDub to convert and resize AVI files and play on my PDA, its been nice : ) but recently I installed the codec "Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder"; and now VirtualDub would not show me any MPEG Layer-3 audio decoder in the audio compression box (at full processing mode), I tried reinstall all codecs but the problem persisted. Unstalling "Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder" might rectify this problem but I dont know how to uninstall codecs.
I will be very grateful if you can assised me on this mater.

ahhhh, i had the same problem myself a while back, never did sort that one out, you can check the "show all formats" box and have them appear again, but as to having them show permenantly it`s beyond me. I ended up formating over a different issue and it was ok for me on the next install.
Hope you find the solution cos that did my head in for weeks.

I have tried ticking the box and it will show all formats, but VirtualDub wouldn?t using the selected option for audio compression, I tried using other available formats for audio compression but they give an out put avi twice bigger distorted sounds. I have to get MPEG Layer-3 to be working again :(

Thinking about it, i may well *not sure* have installed that when my vdub went wrong.
Although if you are gonna uninstall i`d favour a system roll back (if you`re on XP) I was on win2k at the time so i didnt have that "luxury."
I currently got Radium`s mp3 codec installed and it`s working fine (i do have 2 listings for mp3 in vdubs audio settings, one up to 24.000hz and Raduim`s upto 48.000hz but thats a small thing)
I can use either for my encodes but obviously 44.100 is the one i normally use.
If you`d like (and have a big enough inbox) post a DISGUISED email (you know change the . to something else) and i`ll mail you the codec installer. It`s less than a meg so....it aint a big deal.
Thank you very much for you help Ethrieltd. I have tried installing the codec that you suggested and I did get an extra MPEG Leayer-3 audio compression option. Just when I thought my nightmare of this whole ordeal is over, another problem arises. The video is lagging behind the audio when its played in Vitrualdub for certain avi files.
So I decided to talk you advices on using window backup utility(I backed up my system files in may) but the problem with the video audio sync persisted(even on some avi files that VirtualDub had no problem compressing piror to the installion of "Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder" are now a contribution of my headache).
Any idea?
