Alright, I have looked throughout these forums, and I am still slightly confused as to how I would go about doing this.

I will be the proud owner of a DMS4 and V9 PS2 very soon. My other PS2s have all died due to laser failure. The new PS2 will have a 120GB HDD.

What I would like to do is to make it so that I can boot my PS2 with no disk inserted at all, and boot games/apps/etc directly from the HDD/MemCards with no disk insertion at all. My reason, being stated above, is to preserve the laser as much as possible. I am fully aware that some games are impossible to put on the HDD, or at least according to the compatibility list for HDAdvance, and will use a backup disk for that purpose. I'm not sure if the home-brew HDLoader gets past the incompatibilities with the commercial one or not.

If I am missing a thread that fully explains this, a simple link will be all I require.

i wouldn't worry about the laser too much because the v9 and v10 are built the best out of them all and you don't even really hear much about their lasers dying.

Damn...

Thank you for the comforting words, but regardless, I'd still like to know if this is possible or not.

I'm wondering if there is some way to put the applications on the independence boot disk onto the HDD or memory card, then I can use the chip to boot those applications directly. Anyone have any idea if this would work?

Also: Is the HDLoader application that comes with the Independence Compiler better/worse from the commerical applications?
