Hello. I have burned a DVD through "DVD Shrink" from start to finish in 40 minutes prior to upgrading my computer. I had to download "DVD Shrink" all over again. Now since my new download of DVD Shrink" is in effect,When I burn a backup it takes me more time than is allocated for the movie? Why is this taking me so much longer to burn a backup DVD? I don't know what burning system I am currently using but it is much slower than before. Any suggestions on how I can speed up my Process? Thanks Ron

Make sure you are in DMA and not PIO mode.
Check out this guide if you need help:

Since upgrading did you get a new burner? Some have riplock on them- that's sloooows it down. I think the max may be set at 2x.

hello Binky7 - Thanks for your prompt reply. Being A "Newbie" What's the difference of being in "PIO" Mode or "DMA" mode? What effect does it have on speed of "backup" of anything else? I gotta really get on the ball and start learning some stuff.... Thanks Ron

DMA is direct memory access (fast) while PIO is Programed Input/Output (slow). It can have a big difference in speed time.
You should also defrag and run a spyware program for virus's etc. - this can also slow things down.
Stick around - you'll learn alot. Great guides and people also.

Hello Binkey7 I verified my "DMA" mode by following the instructions on the thread that you gave me.
On device "0" the Transfer mode is "DMA if available"
The current Transfer mode is "Ultra DMA Mode 5 " I have no Device 1.
So I would gather that I am set up with the "DMA" Mode. I thought that I was burning my DVD's through "DVD Shrink". Perhaps somehow I got switched to another to a slower burner - don't know....
Thanks Binkey7 for your excellant input, I'll just put up with the slower current "Backup" format. I have the same DVD burner as I did before my upgrade. Ron
