Plextools installation problem

I got a cd with the Plextor cd writer -
called Plextools.Whenever I try to install it, I get as far as the introductory window
with a small message at the bottom:
"Retrieving information from disc A:\"
the 'hourglass' pointer stays put and the system is locked. I have to do a restart
in safe mode and delete plextools.
I tried using the dowloaded (later) version
with the same results.
I have contacted their support engineer
who made some suggestions which I followed
to no effect.
I would be grateful for any help.
