@myyoung84:

I have the same burner and I know where you are coming from. I think you will find every burner has its favorite media. However Ritek is not one of them for the 3520A. Liggy and Dees has come out with a modified/hacked firmware V1.UG which has improved many of the media writing strategies for the 3520A. However, even Liggy and Dees threw up their arms with Ritek media and the 3520A. Here is a thread that has some interesting reading concerning different types of media and the 3520A. My experience is that TY and Verbatim +R work well and Maxell (MIJ) -R work well. Note this thread:

I have used Ritek G05s and they do play well on my DVD player without jumping and skipping, but I burn at a low speed. I would never burn my Riteks any faster than 4X.

i too own this drive, but have since used only TY and Verbatim for my burns on it...i do not have a problem with Ritek G05s..as i have hundreds that are flawlessly burned, BUT, not with this drive..i used my pioneer and my sony burners to burn to ritek.

i think the ritek is pretty good media, ranked #3 in my personal preference of media behind TY and Verbs...but, as LABOY stated, EACH burner has their own preferences..and i agree that Ritek is NOT one for the nec 3520a. :(

try some TYs and Verbs as i have...you will have much better results~ i know i have...your case shouldn't be much different~ :) good luck

I had a LG burner that would do the same thing with Ridata and prodisc media..i pickedup a pioneer dvr 109 and every one of the ridatas and prodiscs i had problems with using the LG burned flawlessly in that one.

yes, different drives "like" different media...i have just had THE most compatibility with my Taiyo Yudens and Verbatims on ALL my drives, that is why i recommend those brands.

my nec 3520a has NO problems using TY or Verbs, even Maxells~ :) but with Ritek, it's a coin toss, i HAVE had a few successful burns using the G05s w/ my nec drive, but, after kprobe scanning them, SOME of the results are fairly close to your own myoung84~

The odd thing is I have always used G04 4x riteks and they all are near perfect with 90+ quality score. But since switching to g05s the last 1-2 gigs does not burn well.

Try updating to the latest NEC official firmware V3.05 and see if that helps:
