Hi

Once again I am trying to burn a backup of a movie I purchased. I am using DVD Shrink and DVD Encryter. I uploaded to my HD the movie files. I played the movie on my pc and everything ok.

I started the burn with Encrytor and 17% into the burn I got the following:

I/O errors generally indicate that your drive has an issue with the media you're using. Try using a different brand of blank disc. If you're internet shopping, then Ritek, Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden should do the trick. If you're going to the local retail megamart, then Sony should be good enough.

Memorex worked and another disk didn't ?? Wow now that is odd and surprising :-) What were the brand of disks you were using before if I may ask?

hi bbmayo,

it's ok to ask - it was ILO Technologies.

The disk I was trying to backup was really scratched so I found a helpfull tip at another Forum which also helped the burning.

Tip - clean the disk with toothpaste that contains baking soda. Thought I share it with those that might not know.

Well just to let you know Memorex are considered one of the worst media out there by most, but if they work for you then that is cool. I was going to say you might need to update your firmware but I just checked and you have the newest version installed..

Cheers

My reccomendations for DVD-R would be these and in this order

Taiyo Yuden
Verbatim
Maxell

Any of those should do fine and if you cant find those try
Sony
FujiFilm

bbmayo is correct regarding the media he listed. Quality media really makes a difference. In the past couple of months, I have backed up close to 100 movies using maxell and verbatim datalife -R's(my standalone likes these best) and had 1 coaster -- and I caused that one. My wife recently had surgery and could only lay in the bed or on the couch for the past 3-weeks and she has watched most of the "chick flix" I burned for her and they all played great.
