Will some people please give advice on where I should buy DVD-R media online and which brand I should get? I use it for a dvd recorder to record from the tv. I had been buying Ritek Ridata 4x silver matte from Rima for about the past half year, and they were working perfectly until the last order I got. I ordered 200 and they came in 2 100pack spindles (they used to always come in 50packs) and when I opened up the 2nd pack at least half wouldn't work on my recorder (it said there was a disc error when I would put them in, is that what coasters are?). So I'm trying to choose where and what brand I should buy my next discs from. I'm looking for reliable 4x DVD-R and I guess I'm looking for cheap too (isn't everybody). Any advice? Or should I just keep buying the same ones from Rima? Has anyone else had the same problems I did with those discs?
Also, is it at all possible that Rima might give me a partial refund for the messed up discs? I still have them because I don't know what else to do with them.

If you must stay with 4x, then these are probably about the best you can get. I wouldn't use any Ritek discs if they were gave to me. Their quality has went to crap.

Go to supermediastore.com and look for their 4x Taiyo Yuden discs.
Right now they are $32 for 100.

I agree with kchev, order the Yuden's from SuperMediaStore, you may get lucky and get the TYG02's like I did (which are 8X) for the price of the 4x's.

Even if you don't, you're still getting top notch media at a good price.

thanks everybody. I'm about to buy the TYs from supermediastore but I have one more question. When it says they come in tape wrap (like here DVD-R-media-silver-matte-spindles-100.html" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-DVD-R-media-silver-... ), does that mean they aren't on a spindle, because I have to have something to put them back on.

Yes it means they are not on a spindle.

They are tape wrapped, but are held together well.

I suggest if you have any old spindles putting them onto those, otherwise just leave them in the wrap and slowly take down the wrap and remove the discs one at a time as you use them. The wrap holds them together pretty well, it's just easier to take them out of a spindle.

Hope this helps.

hehehe fuzzyfish,

yes, those TYs 4x come exactly how abozich described them~ no spindle, no cakebox/plastic cover...just the dvds wrapped TIGHTLY using shrink wrap~ :)

i have so many spindles at my house, if you lived in LA, CA...i'd be more than happy to give you a few of them :) that is exactly what i do w/ my TY 4x DVD-R, i use the spare spindle from my other media that i have burned already and just put the entire ROLL onto it (i only purchase media in bulk...namely, 50 pack spindle and 100 pack spindles ONLY).

just watch out w/ the 100 pack spindle spools...you could poke an eye out with that plastic piece that sticks out. :)

thanks for the information, and thanks for the offer on the spindles kivory but I unfortunately live near Atlanta, GA
I guess I'm just gonna have to pick a different media or a different online store because I have no extra spindles and I like to store my used discs on spindles because it conserves a lot of space. oh well

They also sell the spindles (cakeboxes) there. They are only around $1 or $2. It will still be alot cheaper than buying any in store. (and better quality)

Disregard the last 2 posts, don't let them mislead you.

It is hard to go wrong with "real" Taiyo Yuden. :)

exactly, to consider taiyo yuden rubbish..that is VERY far fetched...bet you they had "FAKE TYS" to experiment over there in greece~ :) if you are using AUTHENTIC Taiyo Yudens, you will find it VERY hard to dispute their high quality unless you get a "bad batch"
