Hi,
I just installed a magic 3.1+ modchip to my ps2 version 1(1-3, not sure). I need to try and reboot multiple times in order to get the backup dvd or cd to load. It usually tell me to put ps2-format disc, or it says no disk. After 7+ times try or reboot, it will load correctly. It seems that there is no laser problem because the original disc read fine.

How to fix it?

well, backup copies are harder to read then originals, especially if you are using bad media to burn to. that means that it could be a weakening laser.

i have a magic 3.1+ and it works great. but i had to replace the laser and i heard that making the wires from the mod to the mobo as short as possible is good.

i have the wires going to the bios as short as possible and the power and ground wires i used 22 gauge wire. might be worth thinking about.
